# 25 I just needed a Revolution
December 09, 2007 05:05 PM PST
Did you know that one of The Who's best songs, gave Pete major grief and inspired the Beatles to write Helter Skelter? Or which song by the Beatles is considered to be the loudest most aggressive song they ever wrote? All kinds of neat stuff this week.
December 01, 2007 09:03 PM PST
Hey do you know who the Angie is in the Stone's song? How about where Denver's Country Road really is? Or the weirdness behind Floyd's Wish you were Here... that and plenty more.... Starland Vocal Band - Afternoon Delight
November 25, 2007 01:42 PM PST
How about a CCR song inspired by Dr. Seuss! Or a CSN song written in 15 minutes on a bet? Or the hit song that John Lennon got writing credit for and no its not a Beatles tune.....That and more CCR - Looking out my BackDoor
November 21, 2007 05:33 PM PST
better late...well....anyway, here is number 22
Live and Let Die - Wings
November 11, 2007 06:49 PM PST
Did you know Rich Girl was based on a rich brat...but a guy instead? Hall thought Rich Boy didn't work quite right...lol and a spree killing may have been motivated by the song? Did you know the person who wrote Woodstock....never attended the concert? Or that Brown Sugar might have been a thinly veiled song about drugs? Yep, that and more weirdness! Hall and Oats - Rich Girl
October 16, 2007 07:55 PM PDT
Elton John - Don't Let the Sun
October 16, 2007 07:50 PM PDT
Beatles - Do You Want to Know a Secret

Johnny Rivers - Secret Agent Man
October 13, 2007 07:08 PM PDT

Neil Young - Southern Man
October 07, 2007 08:03 PM PDT
Did you know that Dusty Springfield changed how she sang Son of a Precher? Why? Or that Procul Harum's name is mangled latin? Or the song you thought the Stones was playing at Alamonta wasn't! Was it artistic or did they just screw up on Maria's song? That and more! Peter Frampton - Baby I Love The Way

I think you will find this one of the better mixes. Not so much of the software games, pretty much a straight read with so neat trivia. I thought it was interesting how many people Carol King wrote for, or what Elton John's Someone Saved my live is about. Or what ACDC went through to get the bell sample for Hell's Bells? And some of the facts behind Chicago by CSN. Interesting stuff. Enjoy!~ Bread - Baby I'm a Want You
September 23, 2007 12:21 PM PDT
Ok, I know...too much software last week. I will do better this week.
Arthur Brown - I Am the God of Hell-fire
September 16, 2007 02:34 PM PDT
Really good mix with this broadcast. Still playing with software at this time...ehhhhh....not sold yet! lol Wow what a load of fun facts this time. A song that was supposed to be about a science fiction rock concert! One hit inspired by an almost beating! Or how about a song about wishing your wife would hurry up and get dressed?! Oh yeah, the thing that great music is born from! Enjoy! Bill Withers - Aint No Sunshine
September 09, 2007 01:21 PM PDT
Little bit more of a mix this week. On the first broadcast, those that heard it, knew that I screwed up a couple of songs, so this is a new remix of that show. I did use the same effects though. Not sure I will stick with them, but it was interesting and the software has some potential. The mix speaks for itself. The Beatles - Come Together

The things you find out with a bit of research!
Righteous Brothers - Unchained Melody
August 26, 2007 01:54 PM PDT
Curious mix this week. There are three fake bands offered up. Two of the bands had some of the same people! Plus, what is Brown Eyed Girl really about? What pop song was based on the song "The Dying Man"? What song could be a tribute to 3 different women? and some of the story behind Rick Nelson's Garden Party. (talk about caustic!) Good stuff this week, enjoy!

Whiter Shade of Pale Procol Harum
August 12, 2007 12:35 PM PDT
I really enjoyed this mix. And before any of you jump me for Southern Cross, yes I know it was on a 1980 album, but the recording was done much earlier and the album was delayed because Crosby was not included due to low productivity and drug uses. The others proceeded without him and the record company would not release the album until Stills and Nash reinstated Crosby. Who knew!? Mellow Yellow - Donavan
August 05, 2007 11:54 AM PDT
This mix settled in really well. No real tech problems and the song mix I think really works this week. I think you will like it.
Venus - Shocking Blue
July 29, 2007 02:11 PM PDT
Got a good mix this week. Sthow is starting to tighten up. Some future ones may need some help, but this one is good. so what do The Spencer Davis Group and Cream have in common. What does Ry Cooder have against Keith Richards, The Ray Davies Quartet were better known as who? and what is meant by Blind Faith? Hitchin a Ride - Vanity Fair
July 22, 2007 12:07 PM PDT
Time of the Season - Zombies
July 14, 2007 10:46 PM PDT
I know some of you have heard this mix before, but I want to get them all up here at least for a time. So this is a remix of #4, though no different music was included. Just finetuned it a bit. Here is the list.
July 08, 2007 12:45 AM PDT
Long Cool Woman - The Hollys
June 30, 2007 11:02 AM PDT
Ok, this was my second try at putting together something that would be fun and informative. I was still working out the kinks. And remember it was suppose to be kinda tongue in cheek. Never thought it would get to a regular show. Who knew?! So, I decided to always open with Here I Come and close with GreenTambourine. Some pretty good facts and other stuff, but I am always open for more. If you have 60s or 70s rock facts about songs or band, let me know! Hold on loosely - 38 Special

Ok, here we go! Now, relax, this was my first try. I have played with this program on WRFR for a couple of months and got some laughs and got some fans. But instead of doing what I did with my first podcast (starting in with the latest episode) I thought that I would start right from the very first mix. So the facts and info are terse, but still interesting. The mix was right off some of the old mix cds I used to make. Enjoy here is the list
And just so you don't get confused in the coming weeks...I always open with Here I Come and close with Green Tambourine |
Podcast Summary60s and 70s top 40 pop and rock with some Motown and blues mixed in. All done with a campy little twist, all in good fun. In a way, I try to emulate the DJs from the days when AM was king and everyone was larger than life. About TommyWhen I was in my teens, in the 60s, I spent years in s a medical rehab facility. One of the things I cherished was my little plastic 11 transistor solid state radio. I would listen to the DJs late at night. Their signal would fight through the static and hetrodyning and they would play top 40 pop music. I thought that would be neat to do that someday. Well I went on to other interests, but I still hold the fascination for the DJ. I have played with radio in one mode or another all my life. Working at WRFR got me back in the swing again. Well.....I just thought that would be neat to do a program that was campy and fun. But I wanted to capture some of that mystique of the 60s. Plus some of the fun I used to feel listening to the old top 40 shows that would often have fun and odd fact about the bands or the songs. So I have started fooling around with simulating the midnight AM radio heterodyne and changing my voice somewhat and digging up oddball facts about the songs. So I have played around with the concept and have heard from some that enjoy the fun and the odd ball "facts" and I hope you enjoy this project as much as I have. Phantom tracks is broadcast live from WRFR 93.3 FM/LP in Rockland Maine. The program is also streamed live from WRFR.ORG on Saturday's from 3 to 4 pm eastern. I try and get the recording of the program on the podcast as soon as I can after the show. Any comments are welcome, as are song requests (if I can find them) The show's email is phantomtracks@gmail.com
